Autumn Gardens to visit

Scott’s Grotto Scotts Road, Ware, Hertfordshire SG12 9JQ is a series of six interconnected chambers decorated with thousands of shells, flints and pieces of coloured glass, extending 67ft into a chalk hillside. On top of the hill you can also discover the summerhouse, which in its day would have commanded a wonderful view over Ware. Scott’s Grotto was extensively restored in 1990 and is a Grade I listed site. The summerhouse and gardens are Grade II. Open Saturday 12th September 2.00pm – 5.00pm Sunday 13th September 2.00pm – 5.00pm. Free Entry.

Michael’s Folly, Henderson Place, Epping Green, near Little Berkhampstead SG13 8NE – This is a 21⁄2 acre plot which features a unique dance and yoga studio made out of straw bales. Featuring an organic kitchen garden, large natural pond, a goat paddock and earth labyrinth, this certainly sounds like an interesting garden to visit. Tea will be served in a Mongolian Yurt and there will be live music. Open Sunday 20th September, 2.00pm – 5.00pm.

Capel Manor Gardens, Bullsmoor Lane, Enfield EN1 4RQ Although open to the public for most of the year, there is a special NGS open day on Saturday 24th October. Featuring Chelsea Gold Winner medal gardens, an amazing holly maze and Meercats, Alpacas, a Reptile House and Shetland ponies for the children. Open 10.00am – 5pm
